A Learning Toolkit (LT) is a compilation of concise lessons, interactive activities, and formative assessments that allow students to identify, remediate, and master competencies in order to fill gaps in their knowledge.
This Title III Grant funded project created at St. Petersburg College is meant to increase student success by offering just in time support outside of the classroom. The first courses selected to receive Learning Toolkits were developmental Reading, English and Math. Those subjects were selected because they had the highest enrollment and lowest student success and therefore could greatly benefit from additional student resources.
In order to create the Learning Toolkits we had to identify the competencies that students have the most difficulty with in each course. The development teams consisting of a Faculty Developer, Learning Support Developer and a Faculty Reviewer were responsible for narrowing a list of competencies to 15 for their peers to rank.
I as the Instructional Design Technologist on this project I selected the technology to be utilized, defined the project scope, defined the workflow, provided conceptuaization and technical assistance for faculty. The expertise of the faculty and learning resource developers was used to conceptualize activities, provide lessons, provide outlines and record instructional videos. Once I received these items I designed the final Learning Toolkits utilizing Adobe Captivate based on the designs provided.
